I was having the worst day until I read this. It really made me stop and think about context and experiences and choices. Thank you! Your wonderful art is a huge inspiration. I’m going to go get a cup of coffee right now.
O wow. Why didn’t I see this a min ago? At any rate, my jaw just hit the floor. This is absolutely beautiful, Mike. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and your artwork is so wonderful. This was a very nice break in my day. We have “Dad Bacon” in my family. Which sounds bad, heh, but I promise it is dee-licious. Yes it is only something a father can do. I’m convinced.
I just love how this flows from scene to scene… so well crafted. You really pay attention to the little moments that we often miss. It is a great reminder to be present. (so Berkeley, I know)
you should consider writing more about your everyday thoughts and consider
getting your memoirs published. i liked it a lot. very realistic in everyday
life and very light reading.
What an incredible warm feeling that captures the mood and the moment. I am in awe of the simplicity expressed and the vitality that comes through. There are those moments in life that one wishes could be captured for the sake of posterity and understanding; you have managed both. Well done. And thanks. It is always a pleasure to discover the hidden talents out there.
Hey Mike, Such awesome work! It makes me wanna go and visit to all the cafes you posted!
Your paintings is so calming, it takes my days stress away….
I hope you and Alex are doing well! Wish I was living closer so I can get to see you guys again
C.R.Macternan - You know, the more I think about it, Dads just rock anything breakfast related…. if there’s any way you can save me a scrap of dad bacon. mmmmm. Was awesome to hang out on Saturday.
Dori - Thank you, Dori. The little moments are all part of the big picture. (Sorry, that doesn’t sound nearly Berkeley-ish enough).
Maritess - I’d love to self-publish at some point and I’m giving it some consideration. At this point, it’s a matter of having the time. I’m glad you enjoyed the writing!
Elisa - So good to hear from you! And I’m very glad to know you enjoyed this post. Come visit the Bay Area again - Alex and I would love to hang out with ya!
Hello..a friend passed on this link to me because he said it reminded him of me. It almost brought me to tears. I just graduated and lived at Milano throughout my four years. I wish I’d written down my experiences there, the many conversations I overheard, the many fascinating people and interactions I encountered. I think I was there during those interviews at Milano. If not those interviews, definitely a similar experience. You captured it beautifully. The view from the upstairs window - perfect. I miss it so much. Thanks for drawing/writing.

Nice accounting of life…and coffee. Maybe I should start writing mine.

Wow Mike! I think you’ve set the bar for yourself (rather high) for art journalism with this post. Well worth the wait : )

Bill - Hey Bill, will do. We should do a coffee crawl… that sounds potentially hazardous. Thanks again for sending that tune.
Daebiya - Thanks Dave. Can’t wait to see the new apartment!
Rickey - I “twitted” this to you earlier, but want to say again that I like the way you phrased what this entry is about. Thanks.
Rodrigo - Muchas gracias, Rodrigo.
Guess Who - See? Another quotable gem and you’re half those guys’ age. I have a long way to go. p.s. I really miss your coffee.
Alex - I’m really touched to know I helped brighten your day. Your art is wonderful too! I love the impenetrable snow fortress.
Jun - Get started! I want to read more about Howard Roark.
Jimmy - No kiddin’, I guess I better get started on the next one. Painting the Grand Canyon is gonna require a little more time than coffee cups.
